Mom, Me and The Horses We Loved (Part 2 0f 2)
Okay, this is the second story to go along with my first one written around June 21st, sorry it took me so long for this one. I have been blogging away about everything else I guess.
So mom and I decided to go on this 6 hour trail ride, okay at the time we didn’t know it would be 6 hours. This was in Creswell Oregon several years ago, way up in the mountains, where there is so much national forest land it is amazing.
So the first thing we came across was this very old homestead, still had the little cabin and fenced coral, etc. It was so cool and so small, I remember thinking how it was that people actually were able to live there. You had to duck to get through the door and trust me I am no 6 ft tall or anything.
Then we found this place that opened up to these beautiful grassy hills that you could look over some other mountains and forest land with some huge oak and what looked to be apple trees. This is where our fun begins and I become the butt of the joke literally.
Safara my bay mare had been in a mood that day, still enjoying the ride, but she was quite testy and as soon as she would think I wasn’t paying attention she would try to escape or do something like jump over absolutely nothing. I realized the little jerk was just trying to get me off her back. I guess she thought if she could do that she would be wild and free for a moment.
Well as the case most of the time mom and I found something to start laughing about and then it became hysterical to us. Well Safara sensing I was in tears laughing so hard and not in control as I should be, started that trot that is made to keep you out of control. You know the one , very choppy hard to stay on, very fast but not quite a gallop or run, that kind of trot.
So there I am trying to hang on for dear life, passing up my mom and her horse and seeing this very big, very low tree in my view and laughing uncontrollably still. Yes I was still laughing when I realized my horse the little fart was going to take me right under it. Okay I am sure she wanted to go right under it and me come right off from a branch.
All I could hear above my own laughter was that of my moms, yeah she wasn’t a lot of help. I did notice my mom started to laugh even harder if that was possible. So here I am now face to face with that tree and yep here goes Safara right under that bad boy. As fast as I could move I was on the side of the saddle leaning over as far as I could without falling on my face.
So I get the little nightmare under control finally, without falling off I might add and let me tell you I am not happy at this point, all laughter now gone. I whisper to my horse that I, not her am the smarter of the two of us and if she ever tries that again I will be writing down numbers to glue factories.
Well here comes my mom, oh yes still laughing trying to tell me something and then starts laughing all over again. That catchy kind of laugh where you start laughing too and you don’t even know why. So my mom the loving woman she is begins to tell me that is was the funniest thing she ever saw when Safara and I passed her up. I reminded her I could have been killed ( okay, not really) but it sounded good.
She says “wait I’m not done.” I am mortified to this day at what my mom says next. ” Both you and Safara’s butts were so in sink in that horrible trot bouncing back and forth so fast and choppy, they looked almost the same, it was the funniest thing I ever saw when you and Safara passed me.”
You have heard of owners looking like their dogs and visa versa, well here it is folks owner and horse butts that look alike. I am not exactly sure what my mom was trying to say that day about my butt. lol
No really in my moms behalf I am sure it did look pretty flippin funny, because it felt like it.
Starbucks Closing 600 Stores – What ???
Starbucks Corp. announced yesterday they will be closing 600 stores through out the United States in the next year.
ARE YOU KIDDING ME !!! What is the world coming to, do they not realize how many people survive by caffeine alone? Starbucks is soooo good, expensive, but yummy. I can just see the whole blogging world sluggish do to the lack of Starbucks coffee. oh yeah, I am bumming big time over this.
Five Hour Fishing Woes (Humor)
Well we had a nice little mini vacation the weekend before Memorial Day, going about 4 hours up north and I ending up with a nice little souvenir.
So you have heard the term farmers tan, golfers tan, etc. well I guess you could call mine dumb ass tan.
Anyway we were up fishing in McGregor & the sun was out, but it was also very very windy which made it quite cool. I found this little cubby hole where I could fish & the wind was not hardly blowing there. Unlike the other little secluded place from the wind I found or so I thought and when I cast my line, YEP up into the tree it went. Of course it happened right when this boat of three fishermen came up. well I saved everything, but my leech, well everything but saving face I guess.
So anyway this nifty little place I found was perfect, I even caught a snake sized northern, after 5 hours of fishing, I might add. I had on a black sweat shirt, because when I had to head out to go get more bait (which was often) it was cold.
Well when we were done & out of the sun for about an hour I happened to look down at my hands, yep bright red. It looked like I had some kind of skin disease, at that point my mom said wow honey you are really sunburned. So I was burnt from just the upper wrists down & I decided to look in a mirror & to my horror my face was bright red burnt , but not all of it. My right side got more sun than the left, but only half of my forehead got anything. Well now it is dark and you can imagine what it looks like.
You know I do not consider myself a vane person, but I told my husband I am going to a tanning booth to try and blend.
Breaking News – Public Apology Yes or No
I get so tired of just keeping my mouth shut about certain things in life that really bother me. So here it it goes.
On another sight they had mentioned that Florida had recently given a public apology for slavery and yes I looked it up and verified it, but this was the question they posted:
Should The United States Issue A Public Apology For Slavery?
I answered absolutely not, it’s 2008 get over it !! now before some of you get your panties in a bunch let me explain a few things.
First I am not a racist nor do I ever plan on being one, that is a whole other topic.
My point is this:
Have we issued a public apology to the American Indians, for taking their land, etc ? Oh we have given them their casinos and reservations, BIG WOOP !
Have we issued a public apology to the American Jews, because we were so slow to act, that had we been quicker we could have saved half of their relatives?
Why would we want to open up this can of worms, when there has been so many that have been affected by things. Some of the things that our forefathers, ancestors and Government has done were awful, but these things happened soooooo many years ago.
You can not single out one American race to give an apology to and not the others, that is wrong. If you do you are saying what exactly? That one race is better than another, that one American race, because of what happened way in the past is able to use that excuse to get more things and do more than any other American? Are you saying that what one race went through was way worse then the ones listed above and others?
We all work, pay taxes, live in this country as one country, it’s time we start acting like it.
I want as much time and energy that is focused on slavery to be focused on things at hand.
I WANT TO KNOW ABOUT:
What is being done about our economy going to hell in a hand basket and very quickly.
Someone tell me what is being done about these awful gas prices that are only suppose to get worse.
Finding ways to help our unemployment rate and all the poor people out of work that is sky rocketing monthly.
Who’s putting energy into fighting for grocery prices, that buying milk and a bag of potato chips is like buying gold.
These are the things I want focused on, these are the things we all need answers to and this is what people should be focusing on.

Mom, Me and The Horses We Loved (part 1 of 2)
I was sitting here missing my mom in Florida, as usual and remembering our time with our horses. Man, those are some memories, some hilarious, some adventurous and some well let’s just say the injuries were not the happiest of memories for us.
One time we were camping at the Rogue River outside Gold Beach, Oregon and decided to go horseback riding way up in the woods, which was all National Forest land. We saw a lot that day. One of the very first things we saw was where a poacher had shot a little spike buck and left him there to rot. Don’t know if the poacher had been interrupted and running for his life or what, but it seemed such a horrible waste.
I should mention too that up where we were riding was a herd of wild horses, beautiful herd with that very beautiful stallion like you see on the movies. Yes and he too acquired a lot of his herd by helping himself to others trained pets. People would report that once their horses got loose and would start to run with him they could never get them to come back no matter how trained and gentle the horses had been. Can’t really say I blame the horses.
Well we did not see the wild herd that day, but I knew my horse Safara a big beautiful mare knew he was around. You could just tell and yes she became a little bit of a handful. I have no doubt given the opportunity she would have run off to join him that day with or without me on the saddle.
Another thing is that if you have ever lived in Oregon you learn that if you want to do anything you do it in the rain. If not you will be stuck indoors most of your life there, in the summer though it is mostly a warm rain, thank goodness for that.
Which brings me to the next part of my story: We Got Soaked!!!! Oh yeah the sky started to open up and that’s all she wrote. We were in a full blown down poor, I don’t just mean wet I mean soaked. When we got back not only were our clothes having their own little streams running down, but so were our saddles. The rain had started when we were way up the mountain and we knew we still had the ride back, so why not just stay up in the woods and enjoy ourselves.
We still had a very fun time though, we always usually did. Which will bring about the next adventure that we had with our horses that I will write about soon. the next one is a little more on the hilarious side or so my mom thought, because of coarse I and my horse were at the butt of it.

What You Didn’t Know About Dishwasher Detergent
All The years of cleaning I have done and all the different products I have tried and tried again, I never knew one little product could be so awesome.
My mom called me the other night and said Laurie I have found a cleaner for bathrooms that is so awesome you wont believe it, she said it is automatic dishwasher detergent (powder).
She had been trying and trying to get the bathroom clean and to no avail, it is my Grandpa’s place and is older so the bathroom never really looks clean, even right after you just cleaned it.
Anyway my mom and even my dad had tried every kind of cleaner they could think of with brand new scrubbies and not much happened.
Finally my mom thought you know ………………….

HIT AND RUN – 11 YEAR OLD VICTIM
This actually happened a little while ago, but the man who did this has just gotten out this month after only serving a little over a year.
A little over a year ago a man (Sanchez) driving a friends van was returning home when an 11 year old girl (Gladys) stepped out into the crosswalk. When Sanchez turned the corner the van struck 11 year old Gladys lodging her in its wheel well and kept going. GOOD GRIEF!!!!
People that saw what was happening tried desperately to get Sanchez to stop. He dragged Gladys for a quarter of a mile down the flippin road. This destroyed her one arm and mangled a leg, she did by some miracle survive, but the arm was amputated. HOW UTTERLY AWEFUL !!!
Sanchez was sentenced on march 21st 2007 to 23 months.
The father of Gladys is so upset and there is no love for the driver (Sanchez) who almost killed his only daughter. The other reasons for this besides the obvious, is the man who cost his child her arm and rendered a leg pretty much useless, got out of prison after barely serving a year.
The authorities said that their hands were tied. The judge went on to say: “It was about as sad an experience I’ve had as a judge. He recalled seeing the horrific hospital photos of Gladys injuries and feling frustrated he couldn’t give Sanchez more time. The judge also said “This poor girl was minding her own business, Sanchez deserves more prison time.”
Authorities said “our sentencing guidelines do not comprehend the magnitude of a crime of this nature, it doesn’t even call for a prison sentence.” NICE ONE !
Sanchez’s Attorney said “Sanchez felt an enormous amount of shame and sympathy for the victim and her family.” I WOULD HOPE SO, FOR GOODNESS SAKE !
OUR HEARTS AND PRAYERS ARE WITH YOU GLADYS AND YOUR FAMILY AS WELL. HANG IN THERE SWEETIE, IT CAN ONLY GET BETTER FROM HERE.
